When in Rome

Image
We woke up and it was Rome day! The day we had been waiting for, for a whole month. Torture right? We had only just packed after spending the night in the pub with Doug and Harry and had a frantic last check for the passports. We got an uber to stansted, where we arrived 3 hours early with plenty of time to kill. I felt a bit ropey so cained various drugs of the legal and pain killing variety and went to spoons for a few drinks. Classic. Our flight got delayed for an hour, which saw a few cheeky g n t's consumed in the queue and then we were well on our way. The flight was painless and infact I am really starting to enjoy flying aside from the whole giant metal, heavy tube in sky thing. I did however, need a wee and went to the very front instead of the back of the plane. I decided instead of doing the walk of shame back to my designated toilet, just to wait it out and managed to get trapped whilst the air hostesses worked their way up the isle offering a range of beverages and re...

Le Paris #un

Image
I was off on my first holiday abroad as an adult. I hadn't had time to be nervous, and at the time point also hadn't had time to be excited but as I was on my way to the airport, I knew my stomach cramps and the rain outside wouldn't dampen my spirits, only my clothes. I was all kitted out for Paris. i'd got my angry birds passport cover and had made a selection of BMA items to wear with Rosie. Including matching berets, a "best friend" eiffel tower necklace and matching olaf pez dispensers. That's pretty much you could ever want. We set off to get checked in which was a medium ordeal. The lady said she liked my burgandy hair colour and it was her favourite which was really nice and then she asked me to give my bag to this other area. Under strict instructions, i put my bag on some random scales and then pressed a door bell, which automatically opened up a hole in the wall where a mildly irritated and bored man took the bag from me and put it in a mac...

The 3 Cornish Gems

Image
After my laptop breaking and dropping my phone down the toilet and losing a lot of my latest posts, including this one, i'm feeling a little under the emotional weather. None the less! I still remember my wonderful time in Cornwall with 2 of my greatest friends and here are the 2 best hidden and one not so hidden) / places I picked. Gunwalloe In the middle of no where was this super secluded beach, with an added wedding. It's a pretty ace place to get married. We didn't bathe on the pebble one but located next to it was an equally lovely sandy one with hills stretched for miles behind it, perfect for a small "hike". Something for everyone's needs. Porthleven harbour I flipping loved this harbour, even more than i loved the rose wine and that is saying something. This simple, cute harbour makes you feel like you are in France. Its swim friendly, which is awesome and made me promptly sad i didn't have my swimming costume. It has a variety of re...

Brighton

Image
My other half had surprised me whilst I was on holiday in Cornwall, with a one day and night trip to Brighton. Double beach time? I was ecstatic. I met James from work at London bridge where we got our tickets to head to the seaside and settled down on a one hour train, in which we both ate leftover pizza and napped through. Which in my opinion is already a good start. During our journey on the train, James muttered "shit" under his breath, which is just what you want to hear on the way to your holidays. He had booked the hotel for the day after, and not the day we were actually in. Shit. I laughed at him because you know, men innit, and then we went in search of our hotel to see if we could rectify it. Brighton is very steep. Our hotel was mostly up a hill to the beach front which was too windy to get even close to. It's a lovely little pub with rooms above it and we were immediately welcomed by the owners. They didnt have a room for that night so they were kind ...

Imperial War Museum

Image
If you want a naturally cheery day, don't go here. I am currently experiencing the remainder of emotions I had after I left the holocaust exhibition and I hope I am one anti depressant away from feeling relatively normal again. I have a mega interest in history and war, and war related objects such as tanks, planes and weapons. Despite being obviously born the wrong gender, I enjoyed my trip out today with 2 of my good friends Rosie and Johnny. We all got the double decker bus as a treat and went top, front row, naturally. There are some super dope battleship guns on your way in, which set a precedent that today was going to be top drawer and full of cool shit. We immediately felt like we needed to fill our tummies before embarking on a journey through history and went into the IWM cafe. The food looked amazing. On a "I haven't been employed since January" budget, I just had a flat white, but they had sandwiches like butter bean houmous, kale pesto and crumbled f...

Wigmore castle

Image
So today was the celebratory day of our one year anniversary, so we decided not to break tradition and go on a castle date. Classic. When we got there we found out where to park which was so, so close to the castle. Not. James spoke to a medium scary looking man at a village hall that looked like he was holding something heavy and bat like but he was happy to learn we were going to the castle before giving us a general direction. It was a little mission to get there but the weather was on our side. We walked down, then up, then through a graveyard, down a windy path, by some posh houses that I pretended could be mine one day for 5 pounds and then up a giant hill until we got to the front of the castle. We had a nice chat with an elderly man on the way who spoke about the castle like it was the greatest thing to exist. He was cute and reminded me of my grandad. We got there and had a look around, it was pretty big concidering it doesn't look like much from far away....

Rosie and Harry's Wedding in Cornwall.

Image
I am writing this listening to "May you never" as i think it will set the tone for this piece. I was lucky enough to be invited to 2 of my good friends wedding in my favourite place, Cornwall! Not only did i get to see my friends from Truro but i also got to see 2 of them get married to each other, which doesn't happen every day! Rosie picked me up from the train station, along with Phil who was on the same train as me, but we didn't know each other. I met Rosie's sister who's from Ireland, and we all went on a Sainsbury's trip which was a hilarious start to the weekend. Why hilarious? One word, Phil. Rosie had somehow given him the impression that we will be without nothing to eat for a long period of time and so his "go-to" was a fruit bowl. His fight or flight response was bananas, orange and apples. I asked him why he thought that was going to keep him going, and his response was that "He doesn't really eat enough fruit". W...

Canada Water Cafe

Image
Canada water café is a little hidden gem, in the most unlikely place next to the tube station. It’s so easy to miss, yet there are so many reasons why you shouldn't! Me and my friends had walked past it a few times and finally had a peak inside. I knew instantly that i wanted to review this place. From the outside, it just looks like a normal day to day café but on the inside, it goes more than the extra mile. We went to their late night pizzeria. We arrive at 8.30 and to my surprise it was buzzing. All the tables were full, the atmosphere was chilled and candles set the mood. I was really surprised how many people were here. We were seated immediately and then presented with some water and some menus. I picked the “Insalata comprese” which is Basil, Tomato and Mozzarella. Rosie had the same and Holly opted for the bruschetta. The chefs themselves brought them out, on lovely wooden boards, which was pretty cool. We were all just staring at each other like "What have we ...

Sigmar Polke at the Tate!

Image
Okay for the sake of all artists and art students out there who I don’t want to freak out or want to punch me, this is my disclaimer. It is my first art exhibition – ever. I didn’t mess about and picked the Sigmar Polke exhibition as I’d heard some really interesting stuff about his pieces which sounded right up my street. The Tate Modern, where it is based, is a beautiful big building. I’ve been there before and was awestruck by its minimalist style. Maybe that’s because my room is always messy. James came with me as he is a member of the Tate and also an art history student. I knew I could probably do with the help. He told me that unless you read the descriptions of the room on the wall, you wouldn't understand any of it. This is critical information guys. The first room, out of 14, was amazing and probably my favourite. It was just so ridiculous and out there I would burst into giggles every 10 seconds. This room was called “Capitalist Realism”. It was Sigmar Polke’s ...

Internship interview in Islington

Image
After trawling the internet for something to replace my redundancy in the up coming week and if luck would have it, something I am interested in, I came across an unpaid internship for the website www.thearcadiaonline.com  as a writer. The description said the main topics would be about culture, food, style and adventure.... uh yes please. Now I know people know me as such an on point fashion guru but what excited me the most were all of the other categories.  Literally all right up my street and what I love to blog about now. I did a simple covering letter, no frills, just explaining how i'd love to be considered for the role, how I have my own blog as something I really enjoy doing and how much I would love the experience. I didn't have high hopes as i've never done anything professional and I don't have a journalism, creative writing degree or the like but hey, if you don't ask then the answer with definitely be no. In no less than 2 days, I had a repl...
