Dismaland

Image
Outside. I’m drinking wine as we speak. Whether it is the stress that uni is upon me, or the fact I now need glasses for activities such as the cinema, I can’t help but feel like this wonderful trip out contributed to how miserable I feel. Dismaland was everything I wanted to be and more. We arrived to Weston super- mare around 3.30 pm and had a nice walk along the beach with a drink before arriving at the queue. It didn’t look bad and luckily for us, we had the glorious sun to stand and wait in. I had to take all my winter prep layers off it was that hot and I am not a girl that likes to be without a jumper, #unessicarysweatpatches anyone? As we got closer to the kiosk, we realised this wasn’t your normal queue and it wasn’t your normal kiosk. “LADIES AND GENTLEMAN, I KNOW YOU HAVE BEEN WAITING 4 TO 6 HOURS, BUT IF YOU COULD JUST PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU CAN HAVE THE CORRECT CHANGE IT WOULD SAVE A LOT MORE TIME” bellowed a man with a megaphone. Ashurst Emerging Art Prize 2015

Image
If you're into art and are in London, there is an exhibition worth going to see! International law firm Ashurst and Oaktree & Tiger Gallery have picked 25 short listed pieces. I am lucky enough to be close with a lovely and very talented lady who has been shortlisted for the art prize, called Jane Tudge. A bit about the artist in question... Jane left school and carried on to work as an archive assistant after realising her parents would never let her go to Art College. She now has a first degree in Fine Art, along with a bursary and 4 prizes. Her most recent work is a commissioned piece made for a touring exhibition organised by Salt Road in partnership with Hereford Council. Jane predominantly works with beeswax because, in her words, of the contrary connotations of preservation and jeopardy.  Her work is gaining recognition and is in national and international private collections and the Womens Library.  A bit about the exhibition... Her piece in the exhibition is ...

Sigmar Polke at the Tate!

Image
Okay for the sake of all artists and art students out there who I don’t want to freak out or want to punch me, this is my disclaimer. It is my first art exhibition – ever. I didn’t mess about and picked the Sigmar Polke exhibition as I’d heard some really interesting stuff about his pieces which sounded right up my street. The Tate Modern, where it is based, is a beautiful big building. I’ve been there before and was awestruck by its minimalist style. Maybe that’s because my room is always messy. James came with me as he is a member of the Tate and also an art history student. I knew I could probably do with the help. He told me that unless you read the descriptions of the room on the wall, you wouldn't understand any of it. This is critical information guys. The first room, out of 14, was amazing and probably my favourite. It was just so ridiculous and out there I would burst into giggles every 10 seconds. This room was called “Capitalist Realism”. It was Sigmar Polke’s ...
